On August 9, 2024, an officer with the Oxford Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Highway 30, for a traffic violation. The officer discovered that the driver, Shuantarius Thomas, 23, of Oxford, Mississippi, is a convicted felon. A firearm was discovered in his possession after a vehicle search was conducted due to narcotics being present within the vehicle.
Thomas was arrested and charged with Possession of Firearm by Felon along with multiple misdemeanor charges.
The Oxford Police Department is housed 715 Molly Barr Road. The department has more than 70 full-time officers and staff and provides a wide range of protection and enforcement services.
