The University of Mississippi College of Liberal Arts presents Lectures on Tap, a signature program designed to open the doors of the UM campus and invite the broader community into the fascinating research, scholarship, and creative work happening across the College.
Hosted in an informal, welcoming setting, the series creates opportunities for faculty to share their work beyond the classroom and for community members to engage directly with the ideas, discoveries, and creative practices that shape our understanding of the world. At its heart, Lectures on Tap reflects CLA’s commitment to being an engaged and accessible partner to our larger community—connecting people with the expertise and creativity of UM faculty while fostering a space for conversation, curiosity, and meaningful exchange.
These events strategically happen near, but off campus at Circle and Square in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Events are free and open to the public!
The first lecture is set for 7 pm on Tuesday, August 18 with Dr. Allen Clark, the director of UM’s nationally recognized Arabic Flagship Language Program. His talk “Beyond Words: Discovering Meaning Through Music and Language” will combine his love and expertise in language education with his deep love of music.
In 2025, Dr. Clark was recognized as the Elsie M Hood Outstanding Teacher of the Year, which is the highest honor in teaching UM offers, and it’s fully driven by student nominations. He also earned the Humanities Teacher of the Year in 2023.
