The Flicker Box: Local Goofball to Host Movie Trivia Podcast

Local Goofball to Host Movie Trivia Podcast

by Caleb Fisher-Wirth

Matt Wymer, owner of Deep-Fried T-shirts, local filmmaker, and local personality extraordinaire, is starting an ongoing weekly event at The Blind Pig—a live taping and podcast recording of a movie review/game show, dubbed The Flickerbox. This represents an unofficial resurrection of Wymer’s Flickerbox television comedy sketch show, which local Oxfordians will no doubt recall from years past on the University’s Channel 99. Wymer has an extensive background in filmmaking besides, including film studies, background acting, directing, and screenwriting. The event will feature a constantly-rotating panel of judges, comprised of local comedians, celebrities, and notable figures around town, going head-to-head in a movie trivia game show extravaganza against any audience members bold enough to step up to the microphone. Contestants will put their knowledge of movie and television trivia to the test, in games such as “Spoiler Alert” and “Three Way,” in exchange for fabulous prizes (which will vary periodically according to the event’s sponsors). The event will be held every Wednesday evening at 8:30, in The Blind Pig. Each week, The Flickerbox will have a unique theme related to the movies being covered. The current releases most likely to be featured in the first installment of the show are Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and The Revenant. Come on out this Wednesday for good times, free swag, and more movie knowledge than you could shake a lightsaber at.
