In recent years the City of Oxford has petitioned the Mississippi Department of Revenue to allow the Alcohol Beverage Control to extend the sale of alcoholic beverages to on-premise permit holders on Super Bowl Sunday. Again, this year the City of Oxford has been granted that extension. The extension will allow for sales to begin at 11:00 am and end at 11:00 pm Sunday, February 2, 2020.
We do want to remind our citizens that, as a part of our grant through the MS Office of Highway Safety, we will have extra officers out working to protect citizens from impaired drivers. We ask that you plan your evening before going out and utilize our rideshare opportunities throughout or community. Our Downtown officers and our safe site will be operational. If you need assistance getting home safely please use this service. Super Bowl Sunday isn’t super if you don’t get home safe!

On Tuesday, January 28, 2020, the Oxford Police Department, Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office and Lafayette County Metro Narcotics conducted electronic smoking device compliance checks. In recent weeks we have received information about stores selling tobacco and vaping products to minors. Through our investigation we were able to identify and cite several businesses under Mississippi Code 97-32-51, Prohibition of the distribution of alternative nicotine products to minors.
Our community of law enforcement officers are committed to protecting our youth and being proactive in deterring businesses from selling these products to minors. We have seen an increase in vape related illnesses on our school campuses this year. We will continue to create awareness surrounding the health concerns of vaping and tobacco products as well as actively investigate complaints of illegal sells!
