Notes From the Local Yankee: “Temptress of the Night” (poetry from TLV #164, by JoLynn Wells)

Temptress of the Night

She lay open and splayed before me
The wicked temptress
Teeth shining brilliant like the moon
Eyes glinting with seduction
The curtains whisper the breeze
Moonlight undercuts the darkness
Illuminating the shadows that lurk
Her laughter cuts through to my spine
In a voice slick with melodrama
With kisses that seize
And hands that vacillate between clawing and caressing
She has a hold of me
I wither into the sheets
Allowing her power to render me unsubstantial
