Local Musician Spotlight: Andrew Newman

Name: Andrew Newman

Current Project(s): Lo Noom

Where are you from? Hattiesburg, MS

Your music Style/Genre: Experimental Alternative Pop/R&b

What is your preferred approach to making sounds? Anything and everything. Half the songs I write are on my acoustic guitar while swinging on my back porch. The other half come from sampling other songs and designing cool sounds/beats on my computer

Early music experience: I started playing guitar in the 3rd grade and have been writing music ever since.

Why did you start playing? My brother played and I thought it was really cool. I was too lazy to learn cover songs on guitar so I started writing my own.

What are some of your favorite bands? Radiohead, Tame Impala, Beach Boys, Steely Dan

Most memorable person you’ve jammed with: My mom. We used to always sing Simon and Garfunkel songs together, and she would sing the harmony.

Do you have a “day job”? If so, where? I am a full-time student at the University of Mississippi

Aspirations: To one day make music for a living and to create music that people can jam and relate to.
