Charleston, Miss. (TLV) – The Gateway to the Delta Festival is excited to announce its lineup for the 2012 event to be held on the Square in Charleston, Mississippi on Ssaturday, September 29.
Oxford-based revelers the Kudzu Kings will headline with a host of supporting acts that include International Blues Superstar Super Chikan, the legendary roots rockers Blue Mountain, and Mississippi brass virtuoso Alphonzo Sanders.

This year’s lineup is 100% made in Mississippi.

“We thought if you live in the ‘Birthplace of America’s Music’ why not showcase the diversity of high quality music we have right here. We hope people from all over the area will come out to support the Gateway to the Delta Festival and take note of the original talent this state has to offer,” said Cal Trout, Chairman of this year’s event.

The Kudzu Kings made a name for themselves in the late nineties and early 2000s touring all across the US with the likes of Widespread Panic. Their brand of music has been called “Southern roots rock drunken country jungle boogie Americana.” Their shows are rowdy, fun, and entertaining and not to be missed.

Super Chikan is literally an International Blues Legend. He has been playing his unique brand of Delta Blues for decades and it has taken him all over the globe. Winner of the 2011 BMA for BB King Entertainer of the year, our local Oscar Winner Morgan Freeman recently noted in Southern Living that Super Chikan is his “favorite performer.”

Blue Mountain has long traveled the country spreading their hyperactive version of Mississippi roots music. They signed with America’s largest independent label, toured extensively during the nineties and early 2000s and released several albums before taking a brief hiatus. By 2007 they were back together and touring again. These days the band is tighter than ever and they command attention every time they take the stage.

Dr. Alphonso Sanders has been involved in music education for over 25 years. As a musician, Dr. Sanders has performed at many recognized festivals, including the North Sea Jazz Festival, and the Montreux Jazz Festival, and he has performed with artists Mulgrew Miller, Cassandra Wilson, and Bobby Rush, among many others.

Other performers include The Bluegrass Appeal, Touch of Harmony, Gone South, and Charleston’s newly formed, first ever community ensemble, The Gateway Gospel Choir.
