Folk Art on the River 2nd Saturdays in New Albany at Biscuits & Jam Farmers’ Market

Folk Art Sale, Wee Folk Hour, Pickers’ Art Contest, and Live Bluegrass

New Albany, MS – This year Biscuits & Jam Farmers’ Market hosts Folk Art on the River every 2nd Saturday of Biscuits & Jam Farmers’ Market. The next one is August 10th.

Hours for 2nd Saturdays are 7 am to 12 pm. Local folk artists have their art for sale. There is a Wee Folk Hour from 10 am to 11 am. Activities for the kids will include a guided nature walk through the Arboretum with Master Naturalist, Sherra Owen, storytelling by the Tallahatchie River Players, and a folk art craft. There will also be a Pickers’ Art Contest and live Bluegrass.

Biscuits & Jam will provide the theme for the art contests along with a background board and glue. Participants will pick up a map of local antique & second-hand stores at the market and are ask to purchase items from the stores and use found items to create a piece of folk art based on the theme of the day. Stores on the map will open at 7 am. Once participants have made their purchases, they return to the market and create their art. The judging will be at noon by a panel of artists. $50 Mainstreet will be awarded to the winner.

Tallahatchie Yoga will be on site for community yoga at 9 am. Agri-tours to local farms will leave from the market at 12. Frisbee golf course on site and disc rentals available.

This will be a great event showcasing local folk artists, learning activities for the kids, and local Bluegrass musicians.

August 10th will feature live music by Love Cannon from 9 am till noon. The agri-tour will be at Cherry Creek Orchards in Pontotoc, and the children’s craft theme is Native American Bead Work.
