In celebration of Black History Month the RL BOYCE Picnic & Blues Celebration is celebrating the African American residents of Como, Mississippi with a photo exhibition by John Shaw followed by a live Blues Jam with Como’s “Big Blues Mane,” Grammy Nominee, and MAC Fellowship Grant recipient, RL BOYCE.
John Shaw, a Tennessee photographer has documented folk life in Mississippi for over twenty years. He is working towards his Master Thesis in ethnomusicology at the University of Memphis. He is widely recognized by the Blues and Folk communities from his wildly popular blog, The Delta Review.
The opening reception for Shaw’s exhibition, “Como Folk,” will be held Saturday, February 1, 2020, from 5 to 7 pm at the Emily Jones Pointer Public Library (104 Main Street, Como, Miss.). The exhibit continues through the month, please check library for hours.
Following the opening reception, shake ‘em on down at the Como Catfish Bar & Grill with Como’s biggest star Hill Country Blues Legend RL Boyce. The show will be from 8 pm to midnight with a $10 donation.
