Mississippi John Hurt Festival Is October 3–4 in Carrollton, Miss.

Mary Frances Hurt is honoring her grandfather’s spirit of faith and determination by hosting the 2026 Mississippi John Hurt Homecoming Festival on Saturday and Sunday, October 3-4, 2026, at the Mississippi John Hurt and Jerry Richardson Educational Center located at 1973 CR 109, Carrollton, Mississippi. Saturday’s events include a guitar workshop and open mic.

A spiritual program featuring Dorothy McClung & The West Singers spiritual group with Reverend Vicky West, followed by a Memorial Walk to the nearby Mississippi John Hurt gravesite will take place on Sunday.

The $20 entry fee will be used to build upon the progress made for site improvements, including the construction of the Mississippi John Hurt & Jerry Richardson Educational Center and structural reinforcements to the St. James MB Church. An assortment of grilled food, sides, and beverages will also be available for purchase.
