Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Man for Suspected Credit Card Fraud

On September 30, 2025, Deputies with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of possible credit card fraud.

On October 3, 2025, the victim, brought forth more information to Lafayette County Investigators regarding the suspected fraud.

After investigating the information given, Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for John Spencer Burrell on October 6, 2025 for Credit Card Fraud over $100.00.

Burrell was subsequently arrested on October 6, 2025, and he appeared before a Justice Court Judge on Monday, October 6, 2025 and was issued a $5,000.00 bond.

The Office of Sheriff is a four year term filled through an at-large election process. Duties of the Sheriff involve two primary areas; law enforcement of the county and administrative. The law enforcement duties are to keep the peace in Lafayette County while administrative duties consist primarily of serving as the county jailor. Due to the growth of Lafayette County, the Sheriff Department now employs 26 deputies working four 12 hour shifts.
