On September 1, 2021, investigators with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office arrested Cecily Chase Caldwell, 27 years old of Oxford, Mississippi, and Justin Gregory Elkins, 33 years old of Oxford, for Manslaughter- Culpable Negligence.
Caldwell and Elkins are currently being held at the Lafayette County Detention Center on a $100,000.00 bond each, set by a Justice Court Judge. Due to the ongoing investigation, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office will not be releasing any other information at this time.

The Office of Sheriff is a four year term filled through an at-large election process. Duties of the Sheriff involve two primary areas; law enforcement of the county and administrative. The law enforcement duties are to keep the peace in Lafayette County while administrative duties consist primarily of serving as the county jailor. Due to the growth of Lafayette County, the Sheriff Department now employs 26 deputies working four 12 hour shifts.
