Water Valley Man Dies in Lafayette County Automobile Accident

On July 25, 2020, at 3:58 pm, Lafayette County Deputies were dispatched to County Road 376 for a one vehicle accident.  The vehicle was driven by a 48-year old male from Water Valley, Mississippi

The vehicle was driven by Michael Phillips, 48, from Water Valley. Phillips worked at Pirate Adventures Family Fun Center in Lafayette County since 2013. He recently worked in housekeeping at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

He was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.

The Office of Sheriff is a four year term filled through an at-large election process. Duties of the Sheriff involve two primary areas; law enforcement of the county and administrative. The law enforcement duties are to keep the peace in Lafayette County while administrative duties consist primarily of serving as the county jailor. Due to the growth of Lafayette County, the Sheriff Department now employs 26 deputies working four 12 hour shifts.
