Water Outage on the West side of Oxford, Mississippi Today

There is a water outage on the west side of Oxford, Mississippi today. Alderman Jay Hughes sent us this email at 8:32 am, Tuesday, September 23, 2014:

“There is a water outage on the west side of town.  It was hoped to have been fixed with the repair about 9:30 last night.  However, sometime during the night a valve and saddle blew out,  probably due to air pressure.  It is a major mess and probably will not be back in service until late this afternoon.  Hang in there – the City is doing all it can to restore service.”

UPDATE 8:55 pm, Tuesday, September 23:

Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Issued for limited areas in West Oxford

The City of Oxford has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for limited areas of West Oxford following a water main break near Highway 6.  This advisory is limited to areas west of the Jackson Avenue-Highway 6 interchange and south of Woodlawn Drive.  Areas included in the advisory are Thacker Heights (Garden Terrace, Eagle Point, etc.), the Links apartments, Tommie Collie Jane Road, and portions of Anderson Road near County Road 165

Please visit the City of Oxford website, www.oxfordms.net, for a detailed map of the areas affected.  Preliminary samples taken this afternoon indicate that the water is fully chlorinated or disinfected, however, the City wants to use every precaution for its citizens on the west side of town.   Official results are expected on Thursday afternoon.  Until the precautionary notice is lifted, residents on the west side of town are advised to boil all water for one minute before using for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing dishes or fruits and vegetables.  Do not use ice made from recent tap water.  The Local Voice Ligature
