Voters Approve Oxford School District Bond in Special Election Tuesday, September 19, 2023

The Oxford School District bond special election has passed with unofficial results showing 1,219 voting in favor and 287 voting against. A total of 1,506 votes were cast in Tuesday’s election, excluding mail in ballots not yet received.

While it is easy to skew the results and say that the bond passed with 81% in favor based upon the 1,506 people who voted, there were about 22,000 people eligible to vote in Tuesday’s election, which includes voters in the Oxford School District, both in the City of Oxford and outside of the city limits in Lafayette County. This means that of the 22,000 people who could have voted, the bond issue passed with only 5.55% of the eligible voters’ approval.

The bond will be paid by increasing property taxes in the Oxford School District. For more information about the improvements that will be made and the affect the bond will have on property taxes, click here.
