Theatre Oxford Hosts Ten-Minute Play Festival
Theatre Oxford is set to continue its annual Ten Minute Play Festival September 12–15.
Since 1997, the passionate volunteer-led Theatre Oxford has been creating and delivering theatrical works for the community of Lafayette County in North Mississippi and beyond. Theatre Oxford is committed to producing small-town performances that rival big-city quality. Theatre Oxford strongly believes in the emotional power of storytelling and in the special ability of the theater to bring diverse people together for enrichment and fun.
This fall, Theatre Oxford is so excited to announce the continuance of their
annual Ten-Minute Play Festival from September 12–15. Upon receiving a matching grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission for $3,300, Theatre Oxford will be showcasing eight plays that were selected, through an anonymous reading process, from 260+ submitted ten-minute plays.
Submissions were sent in from all over the country, and Emily McClain was the winner of the $1,000 prize, with her piece “Secret Family Recipes.” Included in the eight showcased plays are solicited pieces like “Grief has Waltzed on my Heart Tonight,” by local writer William Boyle, and “The Full Moby Dick Experience” by local writer Jack Pendarvis. Directors of these plays come from the Oxford community as well as the local University of Mississippi. With eight plays, eight directors and 40+ characters, this is a night of excitement and fun for all.
This event will take place at The Powerhouse in Oxford, Mississippi, from Thursday, September 12 through Sunday, September 15. On Thursday and Friday, the show starts at 7:30 pm, on Saturday you can catch it after the game at 8 pm, and on Sunday there will be a matinee at 3 pm. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Theatre Oxford box office or online here.
Shows will be performed every night, and the evening will include an emcee, a cocktail cart, and so much more. Come and enjoy the creative storytellers of the Oxford community and be a part of a festival filled with enrichment and fun!
