Small Hall Concert Series to Host Songwriter Contest and Showcase

The Small Hall Concert Series will present a Songwriter Contest and Showcase on Saturday, January 20, 2018, from 7 to 9 pm as the kickoff to the Pop Up Oxford week of events. The event is sponsored by the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council (YAC) and Visit Oxford.

The Small Hall is the intimate venue located at 1109 Van Buren Avenue in the heart of the Oxford Square that hosts two seasons of acoustic showcases annually. The series is designed to offer a listening room experience in which music fans connect with the musician, hear stories behind the songs, and have the chance to talk with the artist.

The Songwriter Contest and Showcase invites all singer/songwriters to submit their work for a chance to be one of the 12 selected finalists. The deadline to submit music for review is December 1, and finalists will be notified by December 21. The price to enter in the competition is $15 for one song and $25 for two songs. Submissions are online at www.oxfordarts.com.

“We hope that launching our spring season as part of Pop Up Oxford with a big event will introduce new music fans both to the Small Hall and to regional musicians,” said YAC Director Wayne Andrews.

First place will take home a prize of $500 and a booking on Thacker Mountain Radio. Second place will take home a cash prize of $250, and a $100 prize goes to third place. An audience favorite prize will also be awarded allowing fans of live music to clap and support their favorite song of the evening.

“We are excited by the prizes for this first event. Offering several cash prizes, an audience favorite, and connecting an artist with Thacker Mountain Radio will attract a lot of songwriters and highlight the vibrant music scene in Oxford,” said Andrews.
