Oxford, Mississippi Subject of Downtown Growth Case Study by Troy, Alabama

Troy, Alabama is looking to develop its own town square. Before they dove into the process, several towns that the Troy Planning Committee felt were good models of what they wanted to achieve. Oxford, Mississippi was one of the top towns they chose to take a closer look at.

The town is aiming for a growth rate similar to Oxford’s over the past several  years. The mayor of Troy spoke with Mayor Pat personally about the history of Oxford’s population.

“I spoke to the mayor of Oxford,” Mayor Jason Reeves told citizens at the city’s first downtown planning meeting. “He said that there was a time when he could have fired a gun straight across the square and not hit anybody.”

Oxford has undoubtedly seen large growth in the past ten years, and the city is planning for even more.
