Oxford, Mississippi Man Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle; Suspect Charged with DUI

On Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at approximately 6:27 PM, the Oxford Police Department responded to Ricky D. Britt Blvd. for a reported crash involving a pedestrian. Officers arrived and found an unresponsive male, Andrew Brown (47 of Oxford, Mississippi), in the roadway. The Oxford Fire Department was already on scene performing life saving measures on Brown. EMS also arrived and assisted OFD.

Unfortunately, Mr. Brown was not able to overcome his injuries and died on scene.

The driver of the vehicle, Nicholas Welch (21 of Little Rock, Arkansas), was on scene when officers arrived. After an investigation was conducted a blood warrant was issued for Welch. Welch was subsequently taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he is currently charged with DUI 1st. His bond is set at $1,118.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol Accident Reconstruction Team has been contacted to reconstruct the wreck. OPD Investigators are actively working the incident. The Lafayette County Coroner’s Office has transported the body of Mr. Brown to the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The Local Voice Ligature
