Oxford Cemetery Offering Free Cremains Burial

Garden of Memories Oxford to give families a place to bury their cremated loved ones

On October 1, 2020, at 11 am, Garden of Memories Oxford is giving Oxford families the opportunity to secure a final resting place for their cremated loved ones. Cremains Preservation Ceremony is a free event, open to anyone who wishes to bury the ashes of a loved one.

Director of Cemetery Services at Gardens of Memories, Matthew Malone

“We want to give families the peace of mind that their loved one will always be secure,” said Matthew Malone, Director of Cemetery Services at Garden of Memories Oxford. To commit their loved ones for burial, individuals must attend the October 1st event. Ashes will not be accepted by cemetery staff before or after this event.

The service, beginning with opening remarks from Malone, will give each family a chance to properly memorialize their loved one. The cremains will be buried shortly after this ceremony. This will allow the cemetery team to commission a custom monument bearing the names of every individual committed for burial to mark the grave.

Although many people keep the ashes of a loved one for sentimental value, Malone says as ashes are passed down through generations, permanent memorialization can become a concern.

“As families move from home to home and generations pass, the ashes of a loved can be forgotten,” said Malone. “This event gives the Oxford community a chance to find their cremated loved one a more permanent final resting place.”

Garden of Memories Oxford is located just north of town off of Highway 7, next to The Orchard church. To learn more about Garden of Memories Oxford, visit www.gardenofmemoriesoxford.org, or call the dedicated cemetery team at (662) 234-1323.
