OxFilm Celebrates “Deep Blues” Documentary with Screening and Burnside Performance December 7 at The Powerhouse
Do you ever wish The Oxford Film Festival were year-round? Well you’re in luck, because the fest has created a new series, OxFilm Presents, which extends the film festival experience beyond the main event. This new monthly arthouse series brings some of this year’s best films from festivals around the world.
In November, OxFilm Presents brought the Mississippi premiere of Becoming Cousteau. The biography of the great underwater explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau produced by National Geographic is now a front-runner for nomination in Best Documentary at the Oscars.
This month, OxFilm Presents a “blast from the past,” the 1991 documentary Deep Blues. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, this film introduced the world to all types of Mississippi and Tennessee blues. The Hill Country Blues is represented by R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough. Following the Deep Blues screening, celebrate the legacy of hill country blues with a live performance from Garry Burnside.
Doors open at 7 pm, Deep Blues starts at 7:30 pm followed by Garry Burnside. Tickets can be purchased at the door, or online at OxfordArts.com.
