One Person Dead After Officer-Involved Shooting Near Oxford, Mississippi

One person is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Lafayette County.

Around 11:29 pm on Monday, February 8, 2021, an officer from the Oxford Police Department attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle fled, leading police on a chase. According to OPD, the vehicle eventually stopped and the driver ran from the scene.

Moments later, the driver was shot in an officer-involved shooting.

The shooting happened in Abbeville, just north of Oxford, Mississippi. No officers were hurt, OPD said. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was contacted and has taken charge of an investigation.

This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released at a later date.
