Local Poetry: “Burnt Bridges”

“Burnt Bridges”
            by Klare Annette

I find myself surrounded
by bridges singed && black
Some fires that were started
I wish I could take back

Some started on the other side
But most by me with selfish pride

A few of them were built of stone
&& are now safe to cross
But many made of sticks alone
don’t make me feel a loss

Most are now forgotten
&& new ones hold their place
A few of them are rotten
with nothing at their base

With so many foundations
that could be poorly laid,
I want to build some new ones
but I am too afraid.
