John Cofield’s Photo of the Week: “University Avenue”

From the third volume of Oxford, Mississippi, the Cofield Collection, this photograph explains the directions the book travels as so many Oxford memories are featured. Pre-orders now being taken at cofieldpress.com. Thank you, Oxford. – John Cofield

“I did indeed walk down the middle of South Lamar and stood under the red light at University Avenue and smoked a cigarette, flipped the butt away, and walked back up to the statue. Not one car appeared from any direction.

Of the four parts that make up who we are, they meet up under the light here. Oxford is to my left, the green rolling hills of Lafayette County.

Down through the small valley and up the other side to that far away gap between the trees lives a great set of Oxford memories, up on Rivers Hill.”
