The “Maine” attraction in Taylor this summer is Hemingway, the 39 inches-long and 26 pound Maine Coon cat owned by Catherine McQueen.
Hemingway holds court from the plush couches of Lost Dog Coffee Shop, looking down upon mere peasants like you and I. His royalty makes an appearance twice-a-week, as Catherine chauffeurs the impressively large cat to the coffee shop for socialization in the form of scratches and handshakes, in his very own carriage. His royal carriage is simply a baby stroller, but in Hemingway’s case, it is fit for a king.
While his dietary needs don’t include coffee, tea, or even a puppacino (Hemingway consumes an all raw diet to stay clear of allergies), he is an accomplished world traveler. So far, he’s lived in Virginia, Rwanda, Kenya, and currently, Mississippi.
Catherine admits Hemingway has become famous from their outings, but she doesn’t let him get overwhelmed by the attention. With a treat and a command, Hemingway displays an impressive ability to follow directions, and hops into his carriage, away from ‘paparazzi.’
