What started as a deeply personal journey transformed into something bigger. Mississippi Eye Care Low Vision, a new specialized service under the Mississippi Eye Care umbrella, offers hope and practical solutions for those with permanent vision impairment.
Dr. Justin Zampella, a Mississippi Eye Care optometrist based in Taylor, was inspired to create this service after walking through vision loss alongside his wife, Maggie. Born with a rare retinal disease known as retinitis pigmentosa, Maggie has faced declining vision with grace, courage, and fierce determination.
“Navigating the ups and downs of vision loss alongside Maggie has been eye-opening,” Dr. Zampella said. “Her strength and resilience continue to motivate my work, reminding me that independence is possible with the right support and resources.”
Dr. Zampella completed advanced low vision training under renowned expert Dr. Ana Juricic and now brings personalized, innovative care to patients across Mississippi Eye Care locations. While based in Taylor, he travels to other clinics in the network to provide evaluations, tools, and guidance for individuals with low vision.
“For those unfamiliar with low vision, it’s a visual impairment that cannot be corrected with standard eyeglasses, contact lenses, or surgery. It can affect patients’ daily lives, making simple activities like reading, watching TV, or driving difficult,” he said. “But we want to empower independence through proper care.”
Mississippi Eye Care Low Vision specializes in helping people with permanent vision loss from conditions like macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and inherited diseases. The service provides low vision exams, prescription devices, and training to help patients regain confidence, independence, and the ability to do what they love.
Mississippi Eye Care Taylor continues to provide routine eye care for the community by offering comprehensive exams and services for patients of all ages, ensuring that all vision needs are met under one roof.
For now, anyone visiting a Mississippi Eye Care clinic can ask their doctor about scheduling a free phone consultation with Dr. Zampella to discuss options and solutions for low vision treatment. Patients can also contact Mississippi Eye Care Taylor at (662) 234-9394 to request a consultation.
