Bad Check Writer at Oxford Chevron Now Being Held for Immigrations and Customs Enforcement

On November 25, 2025, Investigators with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of fraudulent checks being used at the Chevron gas station on South Lamar Blvd.

On December 2, 2025 Deputies stopped the vehicle frequently being used by Katherine Joya on Highway 6 West near County Road 171.

After concluding the investigation, Katherine Joya was subsequently arrested for False Pretense over $500.00.

Katherine Joya appeared before a Justice Court Judge on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 and was issued a $10,000.00 bond. Katherine Joya is currently being held at the Lafayette County Detention Center on a hold for Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

The Office of Sheriff is a four year term filled through an at-large election process. Duties of the Sheriff involve two primary areas; law enforcement of the county and administrative. The law enforcement duties are to keep the peace in Lafayette County while administrative duties consist primarily of serving as the county jailor.
