Batesville Woman Arrested for Vandalism of a Vehicle on the Oxford Square

On August 19, 2025, Deputies with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of vandalism on a vehicle that occurred sometime in the night of August 16, 2025 into the early morning of August 17, 2025.

The vehicle was parked on the Oxford Square near Lafayette County Circuit Court. The damage to the vehicle was appraised at over $1000.00.

After an investigation was conducted, a warrant was obtained on September 2, 2025 for Mariya Fondren (20 years old, Female) of Batesville, Mississippi for Malicious Mischief over $1000.00.

Fondren was located in Batesville on September 3, 2025. Fondren was transported back to Lafayette County.

Fondren appeared before a Justice Court Judge on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 and was issued a $5,000.00 bond.

The Office of Sheriff is a four year term filled through an at-large election process. Duties of the Sheriff involve two primary areas; law enforcement of the county and administrative. The law enforcement duties are to keep the peace in Lafayette County while administrative duties consist primarily of serving as the county jailor. Due to the growth of Lafayette County, the Sheriff Department now employs 26 deputies working four 12 hour shifts.
