On July 16, 2023, the Oxford Police Department responded to an apartment complex in the 100 block of Creekmore Boulevard for a report of a vehicle doing burnouts in the parking lot. The vehicle then left the parking lot at a high rate of speed without headlights. Shortly after, officers located the vehicle wrecked out.
After investigation, Zxavian Harris, 19, of Oxford, Mississippi was arrested and charged with Felony Fleeing, DUI, Reckless Driving, Minor in Possession, No Headlights, and Running a Stop Sign.
Harris was taken before a Lafayette County Justice Court Judge for his initial bond hearing and issued a $10,000 bond.
The Oxford Police Department is housed 715 Molly Barr Road. The department has more than 70 full-time officers and staff and provides a wide range of protection and enforcement services.
The Police Department has a community-oriented policing philosophy and provides around-the-clock patrols. Other services include crime prevention programs, such as Neighborhood Watch and D.A.R.E., as well as specialized units including Mounted Patrol, K-9 Unit, DUI Enforcement and the City Dispatch.
