On December 29, 2020, the Oxford Police Department took a report from a victim stating that someone had cashed checks from his checking account in excess of $3,000 that the victim did not write.
With assistance from the Batesville Police Department, Corey Sims (23 of Water Valley, Mississippi) was identified as the suspect who cashed the victim’s checks.
On March 6, 2021, Sims was stopped in Oxford, arrested without incident, and charged with Uttering Forgery along with other misdemeanor charges. A Lafayette County Justice Court judge issued Sims a $2,500 bond.
The Oxford Police Department is housed 715 Molly Barr Road. The department has more than 70 full-time officers and staff and provides a wide range of protection and enforcement services.
The Police Department has a community-oriented policing philosophy and provides around-the-clock patrols. Other services include crime prevention programs, such as Neighborhood Watch and D.A.R.E., as well as specialized units including Mounted Patrol, K-9 Unit, DUI Enforcement and the City Dispatch.
