On Tuesday January 5th at approximately 5 PM Officers of the Oxford Police Department responded to CR 303 off of Old Taylor Road for an ambulance assist. The caller reported to 911 that someone was shot and needed medical assistance. When officers arrived they discovered 2 individuals at the residence, one was shot and unresponsive. The individual shot was transported to the hospital where they were later pronounced dead. It appears that the shooting was accidental, we are awaiting autopsy reports and evidence to return before a determination is made. At this time no charges have been filed and the shooting is still under investigation. We will release more later today.

Update: 12:05 pm Wednesday, January 6, 2016

At 5:05 PM officers of the Oxford Police Department were dispatched to 110 Old Taylor Road (Cr 303) for an ambulance assist. It was reported to 911 that a white male, later identified as Hunter Escue, 18 of Oxford, had been shot and was unresponsive. When medical staff arrived Hunter was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

On scene, officers spoke with Austin Mclarty, 20 of Oxford, who called 911. It was determined that both young men were handling firearms, when a shot was fired from Austin’s weapon fatally striking Hunter.

No charges have been filed at this time as the case is still under investigation awaiting the results from the autopsy, interviews, as well as the items that were sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab for analysis.

C Fields K Murphy

Promoting Prostitution

On December 30th 2015 the Oxford Police Department Investigations Division, the Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Unit and the Federal Bureau of Investigations worked together on a Prostitution / Sex Trafficking Operation. They were able to make 2 arrests for Promoting Prostitution and identify a possible victim of sex trafficking. Christy Fields (21 of Memphis, TN) and Kristina Murphy (24 of Memphis, TN) were arrested for Promoting Prostitution. These individuals were identified from a previous investigation a few weeks earlier where hotel staff reported suspicious activity and possible prostitution coming from their room. Once officers investigated they made arrests for narcotics possession and one person was reported missing out of Memphis, she was returned to her family. Officers believed that these individuals were prostituting out of the hotel room but were unable to prove so. The week of December 30th these same individuals posted ads on the internet and officers were able to set up an operation at which time they were able to identify that these people were indeed working as prostitutes. Fields was taken before Judge McLarty for her Initial Appearance her bond was set at $10,000.00. Murphy was taken before Judge McLarty for her Initial Appearance and her bond was revoked due to her currently being out on another felony bond in Lafayette County, MS.
