I Don’t Prefer No Blues – Leo Bud Welch’s Sophomore Release Party at Foxfire Ranch
Octagenarian bluesman Leo “Bud” Welch will follow up his debut album, Sabougla Voices, with I Don’t Prefer No Blues, out on Fat Possum / Big Legal Mess on March 24th, just days after his 83rd birthday. BigLegalMessRecords.com states: “I Don’t Prefer No Blues is what the preacher at Welch’s church said when he found out Welch was making a blues album. ‘Up until Sabougla Voices came out, I had only played spirituals in the church and in tents for about 50 years,’ Welch explains.” The album features guest musicians Jimbo Mathus and Sharde Thomas, and is produced by Bruce Watson.
To celebrate this milestone, Welch will perform a release party on April 5th (Easter Sunday) out at Foxfire Ranch in Waterford, Mississippi, just a few short miles up Hwy 7 North from Oxford. The gates will open at 4 pm, with music starting at 5 pm. In addition to Welch, Jimbo Mathus will make an appearance, as well as Robert “Bilbo” Walker, Jason Carter, and the Cedric Burnside Project. The order of performances will be released the day of the show.
As always, Foxfire Ranch is completely family- and pet-friendly, and will be serving their signature food. Welch’s new record will be available for purchase on both CD and vinyl, and the artist will be available for autographs and photos. The entrance fee is just $10 at the gate, and children 13 and under get in free.
So, after you’ve finished church, hunting your eggs, or whatever other Sunday morning activities you enjoy, make the short drive up to Foxfire Ranch and rejoice in some good Mississippi tunes and friendly fellowship on a spring day.
