The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Jason Surrett (49 years old), a Lafayette County resident, in connection with an investigation involving a theft of a motor vehicle.
On February 5, 2026, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service regarding a vehicle that was stolen from a residence in the area of County Road 321. Deputies responded to the scene and spoke to the victim. The victim advised Deputies that his work vehicle was stolen from his driveway.
Deputies gathered information and began searching for the suspect and the vehicle. Deputies were able to locate the vehicle and suspect, identified as Jason Surrett, a short time later. The vehicle was recovered and returned to the owner.
As a result of the investigation, Surrett was charged under Mississippi Code §97-17-42 Motor Vehicle-Taking. Surrett was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center, where he was booked on the charge.
On February 6, 2026, Surrett appeared before a Lafayette County Justice Court Judge and was issued a $5,000 bond. Surrett was released later that evening on bond.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
