On March 2, 2024, the Oxford Police Department responded to the Super 8 Motel for a subject who had set a vehicle on fire. Officers arrived and quickly took the suspect, Jose Cuellzar (38 of Oxford, Mississippi), into custody.
The Oxford Fire Department responded to scene as well and were able to put the fire out.
Cuellzar was transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center and charged with Arson. He was given a bond of $5,000 by the Municipal Court Judge.
The Oxford Police Department is housed 715 Molly Barr Road. The department has more than 70 full-time officers and staff and provides a wide range of protection and enforcement services.
