On August 5, 2021, officers with the Oxford Police Department stopped a vehicle on US 278 East (Highway 6) for a traffic violation. The passenger was identified as Terry Flowers, 22, of Oxford, Mississippi. Flowers was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Flowers was given a $10,000 bond by a Lafayette County Justice Court judge, and a hold was placed on him by the Mississippi Department of Corrections due to Flowers being on parole.
The Oxford Police Department is housed 715 Molly Barr Road. The department has more than 70 full-time officers and staff and provides a wide range of protection and enforcement services.
The Police Department has a community-oriented policing philosophy and provides around-the-clock patrols. Other services include crime prevention programs, such as Neighborhood Watch and D.A.R.E., as well as specialized units including Mounted Patrol, K-9 Unit, DUI Enforcement and the City Dispatch.
