Oxford Man Arrested for Grooming after Juvenile Threatens Self-Harm on Social Media

On November 25, 2025, Deputies with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a welfare concern regarding a juvenile that made threats of self-harm on social media. Deputies made contact with the juvenile, who also made a sexual misconduct allegation that occurred in Lafayette County.

Investigators were notified of allegation. After an investigation was conducted, Dennis Wayne Mitchell (67 years old) of Oxford, Mississippi was arrested and charged with Grooming [97-5-32] on December 18, 2025.

Mitchell appeared before a Justice Court Judge on Friday, December 19, 2025 and was issued a $75,000.00 bond.
