On April 27, 2021, investigators with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department arrested William “Billy” Ales, 46 years old, of Oxford, Mississippi for Credit Card Fraud. Ales was reported to have stolen approximately $1300.00, from a debit card that did not belong to him, to make several purchases online.
Ales was given a $500.00 bond by a Justice Court Judge, and has since made bond from the Lafayette County Jail.

The Office of Sheriff is a four year term filled through an at-large election process. Duties of the Sheriff involve two primary areas; law enforcement of the county and administrative. The law enforcement duties are to keep the peace in Lafayette County while administrative duties consist primarily of serving as the county jailor. Due to the growth of Lafayette County, the Sheriff Department now employs 26 deputies working four 12 hour shifts.
