On July 31, 2024, the Oxford Police Department received a call from a victim about a sexual assault that occurred in the 1500 block of University Avenue.
Officers and investigators began looking into the reported incident.
On August 13, 2024, investigators served a warrant for sexual battery on Elton Keith McCommon (65 of Memphis, Tennessee) who was already in custody at the Lafayette County Detention Center on unrelated charges. A bond will be set by a Municipal Court Judge.
