On April 19, 2024, a Deputies with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to County Road 215 for a one car traffic accident.
Upon arriving, Leonard Campbell (black male, 39 years old) was identified as the driver of the vehicle. Deputies determined Campbell was driving while under the influence.
Campbell was subsequently arrested for DUI 4th or Subsequent. Campbell was later transported the Lafayette County Detention Center, where he was booked in.
The Office of Sheriff is a four year term filled through an at-large election process. Duties of the Sheriff involve two primary areas; law enforcement of the county and administrative. The law enforcement duties are to keep the peace in Lafayette County while administrative duties consist primarily of serving as the county jailor. Due to the growth of Lafayette County, the Sheriff Department now employs 26 deputies working four 12 hour shifts.
