Jury selection for the retrial of Timothy Herrington began Monday, December 1, 2025.
Herrington is charged with killing University of Mississippi student Jimmie “Jay” Lee in 2022. A trial was held in December 2024, but it ended with a hung jury.
Because of the ongoing media coverage of the case, a judge gave the OK to select a jury in Madison County. The jurors will be taken to Lafayette County, where they will stay for the duration of the trial.
Lee disappeared July 8, 2022. The 20-year-old was last seen at an apartment complex in Oxford, Mississippi. Although Lee’s body wasn’t found at the time, Sheldon ‘Timothy’ Herrington Jr. was charged with the murder and was tried in 2024. However, the case ended in a mistrial after jurors were unable to convict.
Lee’s body was found in 2025 by hunters in Carrol County, Mississippi. On February 11, 2025, Timothy Herrington Jr., 22, of Grenada, Mississippi turned himself in to law enforcement and was arraigned on the charge of Tampering with Physical Evidence (MS Code 97-9-125(1)(a) in relation to the body of Jimmie “Jay” Lee being located.
