One of Oxford’s favorite destinations will have a new look in 2026. Avent Park’s large playground area is set to undergo a large-scale renovation that will include new playing surface, equipment, and overall aesthetic improvements.
Work on the new $500,000 project will begin on Monday, December 1, which means the current wood structure and overall play area will be off limits to the public until work is completed. There will be a no entry barrier placed around the playground area, signifying the construction zone. The small playground at Avent, designed for ages 2 to 5, and the pavilion area will remain open to the community for use during the construction period.
Planet Recess, a company that specializes in commercial playground projects, has been hired by city leaders to be in charge of the project. BCI Burke is the company that will provide the equipment for the new project.
The new play will be just over 6,100 square feet, with an additional 1,300 square feet added for the path. The new playground equipment is designed for ages 5 to 12 just like the current version at Avent.
