The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Christopher Ray Reed, age 34, of Water Valley, Mississippi, in connection with a shots-fired incident that occurred on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at approximately 10:00 am.
Deputies responded to Anchor Baptist Church on Highway 7 South after receiving reports that a male passenger in a silver SUV had shouted profanity and obscenities toward church members in the parking lot and then discharged multiple rounds into the air with a handgun. Church members immediately notified the Sheriff’s Office and provided an accurate vehicle description.
A short time later, deputies located and stopped the vehicle on Highway 7 near University Avenue. The passenger, later identified as Christopher Ray Reed, was taken into custody without incident. Reed appeared to be heavily intoxicated at the time of arrest. Deputies recovered multiple firearms from the vehicle, including the handgun believed to have been used in the incident.
Investigators from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office initiated a comprehensive investigation. Multiple witnesses—including church members and the vehicle’s driver—were interviewed. After completing the investigation, the driver was released without charges. No injuries were reported.
Reed was charged with Making a Terroristic Threat in violation of Mississippi Code § 97-7-75. He was transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center, where he remains in custody. On Monday, December 8, 2025, Reed appeared before a Justice Court Judge and was issued a $75,000 bond. He is currently being held at LCDC awaiting bond.

The timely information provided allowed deputies and investigators to respond rapidly, identify the suspect, and prevent further escalation. Based on the investigation, authorities believe this was a random act, and there is no ongoing threat to Anchor Baptist Church or the Lafayette County community.
