{"id":99798,"date":"2020-08-19T15:11:03","date_gmt":"2020-08-19T20:11:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=99798"},"modified":"2020-08-19T15:11:09","modified_gmt":"2020-08-19T20:11:09","slug":"primary-care-clinic-opens-in-the-oxford-school-district","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/primary-care-clinic-opens-in-the-oxford-school-district\/","title":{"rendered":"Primary Care Clinic Opens in the Oxford School District"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In partnership with <strong>North Mississippi Primary Health Clinics<\/strong> (NMPHC), the <strong>Oxford School District<\/strong> is providing\u00a0<em><strong>Charger Health and Wellness<\/strong><\/em> &#8211;<em><strong> <\/strong><\/em>a<em>\u00a0<\/em>school-based health clinic dedicated to the students and staff of Oxford School District located at 399 5th Street (the former <strong>Oxford Learning Center<\/strong>).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, the district began making arrangements for a school-based health clinic to serve its students and staff members. School-based health clinics are a\u00a0powerful tool for school districts around the country to meet\u00a0the unique needs of vulnerable populations facing significant barriers to healthcare. School nurses are able to refer students for treatment that is outside their scope of practice on campus. Referrals are not required. Most importantly, the clinic is equipped with two Abbott ID Now technology for <strong>COVID-19<\/strong> rapid testing that reveals results in 15 minutes or less.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NMPHC is a private-nonprofit\u00a0<strong>Community Health Center<\/strong> organization with\u00a0eight clinics and a mobile unit in north Mississippi &#8211; including their Oxford clinic at 2716 West Oxford Loop, Suite 171. Services will be offered in a mobile unit adjacent to the former Oxford Learning Center while the building is remodeled for the permanent health center.\u00a0 NMPHC staff will initially provide medical care, expanding to dental, mental health, and social services later in the school year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Primary and preventative services will include:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Well Child Visits\u00a0<br>\u2022 Immunizations\u00a0<br>\u2022 Chronic Disease Management\u00a0<br>\u2022 Nutrition Counseling\u00a0<br>\u2022 Acute Care\u00a0<br>\u2022 Substance Abuse Screening\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The clinic will be open from 7:30 am- 4:00 pm each weekday. Primary care services will be provided at this location to students and employees regardless of their ability to pay. Students and staff will not face any out-of-pocket charges for care, only what insurance covers. With parental consent, the district can provide transportation to the clinic if the parent is unable to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is simply a resource available to OSD families, not a requirement for care.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em><strong>About the clinic:<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When is CHW open and what are the hours?<\/strong>\u00a0Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 am\u20134:00 pm (open during lunch periods).An on-call provider is available when CHW is closed (e.g., from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on weekdays, weekends and holidays) and facilitates emergency room referrals of students as needed.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who can receive services at CHW?<\/strong>\u00a0Any student currently enrolled at Oxford School District, faculty, and staff. After graduation, seniors can use the health center through the first week of August; after that, CHW staff will assist students with transitioning to another health care provider.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Can I still go to my normal doctor\u2019s office?<\/strong>\u00a0Yes. CHW can either supplement existing services received from a student\u2019s primary health care provider or serve as a student\u2019s regular health provider. CHW offers the convenience of a doctor\u2019s visit without missing an entire day of school or requiring a parent to miss work. CHW staff communicates with your regular doctor to keep them informed.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Is it true that students don\u2019t pay?<\/strong>\u00a0YES! Students DO NOT directly pay for services. Instead, if a student is insured, the insurance may be billed where applicable. We do not send bills or letters home for services. A case manager is able to help students apply for insurance if they lack it.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What if there\u2019s an emergency?<\/strong>\u00a0If a student needs to be seen at CHW for an unlikely emergency situation, enrollment will be done by CHW staff where applicable.
