UNIVERSITY, Miss. (CCWR) \u2014\u00a0The Center for Civil War Research<\/strong> at the University of Mississippi<\/strong> invites you to attend the 2013 Conference on the Civil War<\/strong>, October 3-5<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0This year\u2019s conference begins with a keynote address on \u201cThe Emancipation of Abraham Lincoln,\u201d by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Eric Foner<\/strong> (Columbia University).\u00a0\u00a0Professor Foner\u2019s address will begin at\u00a06 pm\u00a0in Nutt Auditorium (350 University Ave).\u00a0\"Eric<\/a><\/p>\n

Eric Foner is a prominent historian of the Civil War and Reconstruction eras.\u00a0\u00a0He is the author of the influential\u00a0Reconstruction: America\u2019s Unfinished Revolution.<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0His most recent book,\u00a0The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery\u00a0<\/i>(2010), received, among other awards, the Bancroft Prize, the Pulitzer Prize for History, and the Lincoln Prize.<\/p>\n

The conference, entitled \u201cThis Terrible War,\u201d\u00a0will continue\u00a0October 4 and 5\u00a0with panels both days from\u00a08:30 am to 6:00 pm\u00a0in Butler Auditorium in the Triplett Alumni Center (651 Grove Loop).\u00a0\u00a0Speakers include Nina Silber<\/strong> (Boston University), Wendy Hamand Venet<\/strong> (Georgia State University), Jim Downs<\/strong> (Connecticut College), and J. David Hacker<\/strong> (SUNY Binghampton).\u00a0\u00a0All events are free and open to the public.<\/p>\n
