{"id":91601,"date":"2020-07-29T18:31:55","date_gmt":"2020-07-29T23:31:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=91601"},"modified":"2020-07-29T18:31:59","modified_gmt":"2020-07-29T23:31:59","slug":"grammy-museum-mississippi-hosts-words-music-online","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/grammy-museum-mississippi-hosts-words-music-online\/","title":{"rendered":"GRAMMY Museum\u00ae Mississippi Hosts Words &#038; Music Online"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Special Public Program Series Features Hit Songwriters Sharing Their Songs and Stories<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CLEVELAND, MISS. <\/strong>\u2014 <strong>GRAMMY Museum<sup>\u00ae <\/sup>Mississippi <\/strong>has announced the continuation of its songwriter series titled <strong>Words &amp; Music<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quarterly programs will be hosted in the<strong> Sanders Soundstage<\/strong> and will feature conversations with successful songwriters as they share their songs and stories of their career trajectory in the music industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The inaugural event in the series was held earlier this year in February and featured an intimate conversation and performance with influential GRAMMY<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>-winning duo <strong>Bill<\/strong> and <strong>Gloria Gaither<\/strong>. The spring songwriter event was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will be rescheduled in 2021. The next program in the series will take place via an online performance from the Sanders Soundstage on<strong> Monday, August 17<\/strong> at 7 pm with award-winning Mississippi songwriter <strong>Bob Morrison<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A native of <strong>Biloxi<\/strong>, Mississippi, Bob Morrison has had more than 350 of his songs recorded. Among those successful compositions is the GRAMMY-winning song, \u201cYou Decorated My Life,\u201d recorded by <strong>Kenny Rogers <\/strong>and the GRAMMY-nominated song \u201cLookin\u2019 For Love,\u201d which was recorded by Johnny Lee and served as the theme song for the 1980 <strong>John Travolta<\/strong> film, <em><strong>Urban Cowboy<\/strong><\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morrison received ASCAP\u2019s Country Songwriter of the Year award in 1978, 1980, 1981, and 1982. He was also awarded the Songwriter of the Year Award in 1980 by the Nashville Songwriter\u2019s Association International, and he\u2019s earned more than 40 ASCAP songwriting citations. Additionally, Morrison was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His songs have been recorded by artists such as <strong>The Carpenters<\/strong>, <strong>Sammy Davis Jr.<\/strong>, <strong>Jerry Lee Lewis<\/strong>, <strong>Barbara Mandrell<\/strong>, <strong>Reba McEntire<\/strong>, <strong>The Oak Ridge Boys<\/strong>, and <strong>Dottie West<\/strong>. Aside from songwriting, he has a college degree in nuclear engineering and was an actor and recording artist prior to launching his songwriting career full-time.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tickets for the online program are $15 each and may be purchased at <a href=\"http:\/\/live.grammymuseumms.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">live.grammymuseumms.org<\/a>.
