Oxford Film Festival <\/strong>continues to embrace and expand upon its role as the region\u2019s film culture lifeline, by introducing the debut of its brand new OFF to the DRIVE IN<\/strong> with Ed Wood\u2019s<\/strong> cult classic Plan 9 from Outer Space<\/em><\/strong> kicking off the drive-in on June 11 and Loki Mulholland\u2019s<\/strong> timely documentary The Evers <\/em><\/strong>about the family of slain Civil Rights activist Medgar Evers<\/strong>, shown on June 12\u201313. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presenting Sponsor Cannon Motors<\/strong> will host the drive-in screenings at the Cannon Lot located at 100 Thacker Loop<\/strong> in Oxford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parkland Rising<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

This week\u2019s Virtual Art House<\/strong> offerings are highlighted by Josephine Decker\u2019s <\/strong>Sundance hit Shirley, <\/strong><\/em>starring Elizabeth Moss<\/strong> as a renowned horror writer who, with her husband, toys with a young couple staying at her estate, Abel Ferrara<\/strong>\u2019s drama Tommaso<\/em><\/strong>, which marks another pairing of the bad-boy director with the Oscar-nominated Willem Dafoe<\/strong>, and two-time Emmy winner Cheryl Horner McDonough<\/strong>\u2019s documentary Parkland Rising<\/em>, which traces the international movement spawned by the tragic high school shooting massacre to fight for better gun control laws.

Week 7 of Oxford Virtual Film Fest showcases celebrate documentaries once again with Erin Palmquist<\/strong>\u2019s From Baghdad to the Bay<\/em><\/strong>, about an Iraqi refugee and translator for the Army and his struggles compounded by coming out as a gay man, and Larissa Lam\u2019<\/strong>s Mississippi documentary Far East Deep South<\/em><\/strong>, about a Chinese-American man\u2019s journey from California to Mississippi to make a connection to his past, which reveals the South\u2019s connection to the Chinese and the early segregated South, as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two shorts programs include the Music Rocks <\/strong>music video package and an encore of the popular American Lens<\/strong> short film program\u2014back by popular demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Executive Director Melanie Addington<\/strong> said. \u201cWe are very excited to debut our OFF to the DRIVE IN film presentations, as I\u2019m sure many of our locals are ready to get out of the house and see some films while safely following CDC guidelines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Most importantly, in this climate and in Mississippi, highlighting the great Mississippi-produced film The Evers on the anniversary of Medgar Evers\u2019 death is crucial to further the conversation to improve our lives. A special conversation will be included with the film from the family and director.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Oxford Film Festival<\/strong> was founded in 2003 to bring exciting, new, and unusual films (and the people who create them) to North Mississippi.
