A suspect in an Lawrence County<\/strong>, Arkansas <\/strong>murder was shot and killed by authorities Friday, May 15, 2020 in Oxford, Mississippi<\/strong> during a shootout in which a U.S. Marshal<\/strong> was wounded, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hunter Carlstrom<\/strong>, 33, was fatally shot by authorities after he began firing at deputies attempting to pull him over in Oxford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation<\/strong> Captain Johnny Poulos<\/strong> said Marshals tried to stop Carlstrom on Friday morning, but he fled and later jumped out of the car and began shooting at authorities, hitting the marshal twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poulos said Marshals returned fire and Carlstrom was later pronounced dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt approximately 11:30 CDT today, a deputy US Marshal was shot and wounded in Oxford, Mississippi while attempting to execute an arrest warrant. The deputy was part of a team looking for Hunter Carlstrom, a fugitive wanted for capital murder in Arkansas,\u201d the MBI said. \u201cPreliminary information indicates Carlstrom produced a handgun and fired upon the team when they approached his vehicle and commanded him to exit. In response, officers returned fire striking Carlstrom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deputy U.S. Marshal, whose name was not released, was taken to an area hospital, the MBI said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe remaining officers administered emergency medical attention to Carlstrom until EMS arrived. He was later pronounced deceased,\u201d the MBI said, noting no other officers were injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carlstrom’s wife was with him during the confrontation and was taken into custody. It was not immediately clear whether she faces any charges. Hunter Carlstrom was wanted in connection for the murder of James Sartorelli<\/strong> at a Smithville<\/strong>, Arkansas home in early May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to screenshots taken of his Facebook page, Calstrom called himself “Super Honkey” and was fond of posting photographs of himself with guns and an ankle bracelet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arkansas State Police<\/strong> and the Lawrence County Sheriff\u2019s Department<\/strong>\u00a0had been investigating the homicide in the Smithville community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lawrence County Sheriff\u2019s Office said deputies were called to a home at 50 Lawrence County Road 2741 on May 7 due to an unresponsive person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There, they found the body of James Sartorelli. The coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
