Some restaurants in Mississippi began opening for dine-in service yesterday, but did so with numerous restrictions imposed by\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/r20.rs6.net\/tn.jsp?f=001DvFybg_4zTxa12UCtW3HXJvYyVqrSHNOknsy8bT34j16NV-JkTz7qBeEYwWkv68i3XhcPorZHxWdo8y5ODOGNx7zS0JUD_i3r9LB0tLq1NrK7VWCs5zz9hhnoFsuTaVPhF9C7JJ4t1tltfs7yVQUHors_nVH9F23rXoxwqWLuPCETVNJRzavuafhzctdpheNXIJ_LZBd8BX4D3HVAGWuYQ==&amp;c=-snTz_GVNC-DFEWP1PepPuQZb8glDnSmYLZPKfBincT7t2UYC9kOkA==&amp;ch=8zm10W0uBEZZY3WsFIFopSv7_W_DocCRgflvgzyOHn75vbDX9q35Mw==\" target=\"_blank\">Governor Reeves&#8217; Executive Order No. 1478<\/a>, including a requirement that &#8220;[t]he number of customers&#8230;shall be no greater than 50% of seating capacity.&#8221;\u00a0<em>See<\/em>, Paragraph I(a)(x).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why it\u2019s important:<\/strong>\u00a0Restaurants employ\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/r20.rs6.net\/tn.jsp?f=001DvFybg_4zTxa12UCtW3HXJvYyVqrSHNOknsy8bT34j16NV-JkTz7qBeEYwWkv68iwaWFvnR1ek2Uw5xeUD-p-mG4Dy3lOHEaFvdZvWKsTk8L29C1VJ07eqsIJ-xBh8dwJVCIv3g1J76ksUgsEHU8C4IUYVuWJFMC7LxYQRBIt8VVrIB3oN4yLPAgRJMjiG5Px9YLhSYjNrMAwafDzJZkvwHyz0c4NgcJ_ux4vfpt_lwlmSGnriSmOL1qSR1uLkyo&amp;c=-snTz_GVNC-DFEWP1PepPuQZb8glDnSmYLZPKfBincT7t2UYC9kOkA==&amp;ch=8zm10W0uBEZZY3WsFIFopSv7_W_DocCRgflvgzyOHn75vbDX9q35Mw==\" target=\"_blank\">more Lafayette County workers than any other sector<\/a>, save government. Moreover, they contribute heavily to Oxford&#8217;s unique culture, identity and bottom line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>&#8220;Restaurants have become&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/r20.rs6.net\/tn.jsp?f=001DvFybg_4zTxa12UCtW3HXJvYyVqrSHNOknsy8bT34j16NV-JkTz7qBeEYwWkv68ieQkYfSkDT0dOtWTLPwymxJIKhthdrfC5FlhVCDkrkZiVsTyc66oTGS5L1f2OehSmqpw_B2UsdllbGcB6SvyOqAW1RPQRX3q68G5XGODb-rsNxr4B1IWIr3AhdvVfuEEyzjO9Tp92TqFlndD6-57Pdn8FlZVZLMKj&amp;c=-snTz_GVNC-DFEWP1PepPuQZb8glDnSmYLZPKfBincT7t2UYC9kOkA==&amp;ch=8zm10W0uBEZZY3WsFIFopSv7_W_DocCRgflvgzyOHn75vbDX9q35Mw==\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the economic lifeblood<\/a>&nbsp;for many cities&#8221; reports The New York Times.<\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/r20.rs6.net\/tn.jsp?f=001DvFybg_4zTxa12UCtW3HXJvYyVqrSHNOknsy8bT34j16NV-JkTz7qBeEYwWkv68iqMoF_X-7xR7wi9gzCzBvHhAJUn3dWIsFt9xztvuE-E0i0avv6dXYkOqMVFc2Z1p9ik0Cto2TQR2_KDJHF5_L_M1cAlbgBckQfaIEeDsbYA8Ir8QD8ibuThv24dl6-_8UC-7DjwzecTc0cbIAQzS69QbALF0qCGsf&amp;c=-snTz_GVNC-DFEWP1PepPuQZb8glDnSmYLZPKfBincT7t2UYC9kOkA==&amp;ch=8zm10W0uBEZZY3WsFIFopSv7_W_DocCRgflvgzyOHn75vbDX9q35Mw==\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oxford&#8217;s 2% Tourism Tax<\/a>, which annually funds varied community enhancements, programming and the salaries of many staff, including first responders, is imposed on retail sales of prepared food, beer and alcoholic beverages at restaurants. Tactical urbanism, a concept long-familiar to&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/r20.rs6.net\/tn.jsp?f=001DvFybg_4zTxa12UCtW3HXJvYyVqrSHNOknsy8bT34j16NV-JkTz7qBeEYwWkv68iI0bZTwAoAzFx8ewuYraPELxw54ST8jsr5Pqv7BomGQYx50Tr_8zsm9MoiQLL4kitI3y2sWBM2yv8OqbVoZSE5zTG1paArfFMo-TqT4ez-Xf1X2aL5KSdkFXJnmwzRaAUrzQVTACU0zVSTL_IjjHZDbo69ZVcHzgKyFa3LrV6vW81k9rE7moX0N-h3HGRcfAN1GbRtqcx31o=&amp;c=-snTz_GVNC-DFEWP1PepPuQZb8glDnSmYLZPKfBincT7t2UYC9kOkA==&amp;ch=8zm10W0uBEZZY3WsFIFopSv7_W_DocCRgflvgzyOHn75vbDX9q35Mw==\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cities interested in evaluating new ideas<\/a>, provides just such an opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Early on in the crises Oxford leaders reserved certain parking spaces around the Square for curbside pick-up. They should expand on this policy city-wide by immediately suspending outdoor dining restrictions, replacing them with temporary rules encouraging outdoor seating on designated sidewalks and parking spaces, and collaborating with interested restaurant owners on best practices.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bottom line:<\/strong>&nbsp;We are living in a new era that requires quick and innovative policy solutions. We all miss our favorite restaurants.
