The End of All Music<\/strong> record store in Oxford, Mississippi<\/strong>, will be publishing a link to screen the\u00a0music documentary Other Music<\/em> <\/strong>on\u00a0Friday, April 17, 2020. You can buy a ticket for $11.50, with half of that rental fee going to The End of All Music and the other half going to the filmmakers.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A trip to NYC during the 2000s wasn’t successful without a trip to Other Music<\/strong>\u2014a near perfect record store. It’s safe to say that the store\u2014and later their record label of the same name\u2014was a huge influence on The End of All Music. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other Music<\/em> was in consideration for the 2020 Oxford Film Festival<\/strong>, but ultimately I choose to screen different music documentaries that were equally as good. However, I do highly recommend the Other Music<\/em> film. It is top-notch and entertaining, especially if you love music, record stores, and New York City!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other Music<\/strong> was an influential and uncompromising New York City record store that was vital to the city\u2019s early 2000s indie music scene. But when the store is forced to close its doors due to rent increases, the homogenization of urban culture, and the shift from CDs to downloadable and streaming music, a cultural landmark was lost. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through vibrant storytelling, the documentary captures the record store\u2019s vital role in the musical and cultural life of the city, and highlights the artists whose careers it helped launch including\u00a0Vampire Weekend, Animal Collective, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, William Basinski, Neutral Milk Hotel, Sharon Van Etten, Yo La Tengo, <\/strong>and TV On The Radio.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
