{"id":85644,"date":"2020-03-22T18:27:41","date_gmt":"2020-03-22T23:27:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=85644"},"modified":"2020-03-22T18:35:41","modified_gmt":"2020-03-22T23:35:41","slug":"city-of-oxford-mississippi-passes-a-second-emergency-declaration-and-orders-many-businesses-to-close-or-change-practices-in-order-to-combat-the-spread-of-covid-19-coronavirus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/city-of-oxford-mississippi-passes-a-second-emergency-declaration-and-orders-many-businesses-to-close-or-change-practices-in-order-to-combat-the-spread-of-covid-19-coronavirus\/","title":{"rendered":"City of Oxford, Mississippi Passes a Second Emergency Declaration and Orders Many Businesses to Close or Change Practices in order to Combat the Spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <strong>City of Oxford Board of\nAldermen<\/strong> held a special meeting on <strong>Sunday,\nMarch 22, 2020<\/strong> and unanimously approved a second emergency declaration to\ncombat the spread of the <strong>COVID-19<\/strong> <strong>coronavirus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mayor <strong>Robyn Tannehill <\/strong>opened\nthe meeting to a largely empty courtroom, unlike previous board meetings. All\nof Oxford\u2019s Aldermen joined the meeting through a phone teleconference call.\nThe people visible in the courtroom with the Mayor appeared to be observing\n\u201csocial distancing\u201d and were all at least six feet apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mayor read the lengthy emergency proclamation aloud and then opened the discussion about the declaration with the Aldermen. The Aldermen asked many questions about how to further stop the spread of the disease, including contamination through payment methods that stores use, including credit cards and cash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the discussion, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boardpaq.com\/get?c=YeWHxu42HMJcz1%2bt2C28Ag%3d%3d\">the proclamation was passed unanimously<\/a>. It goes into effect immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The changes won\u2019t further affect restaurants, but they do affect\nmany other types of businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the proclamation, all bars, entertainment venues, meetings of fraternal and\ncivic organizations, bowling alleys, theatres, tattoo parlors, barbershops,\nhair\/beauty\/nail\/tanning salons, spas, gyms, convention centers, community\ncenters and parks (except for walking trails), shopping centers, retail stores\n(except where curbside is available and utilized), inside the city limits of\nOxford shall be closed to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All churches, temples and places of\nworship, assemblages and gatherings, including but not limited to private clubs\nwithin the City limits of the City of Oxford, shall adhere to the guidelines of\nthe Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Mississippi Department of Health,\nand shall limit crowds, and assemblages or gatherings to no more than 10\npeople.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All essential businesses, agencies\nand units of government located within the City of Oxford shall take all\nreasonable measures to ensure that such businesses comply with the CDC and the\nMississippi Department of Health recommendations and guidance, and shall\nimplement appropriate safeguards to prevent the spread of infectious disease,\nincluding but not limited to: mandating social distancing, sending home sick\nemployees and actively encouraging sick employees to stay home, separating and\nsending home employees who appear to have respiratory illness symptoms,\nemphasizing work-from-home policies where possible, mandating respiratory\netiquette and proper hand hygiene, maintaining clean and sanitary workplaces,\ncautioning employees regarding travel, and taking all such additional measures\nto prohibit and\/or reduce the spread of infectious disease, and especially\nCovid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following are to remain\noperational following the CDC guidelines: City government services (police\nstations, fire stations, courts, garbage\/sanitation, utilities, and such other\nservices as the Mayor shall determine), hospitals\/clinics and healthcare\noperations (nursing homes and assisted living facilities), veterinarian\noffices, gas stations, drug stores and pharmacies, food services (grocery\nstores, farmers markets, food banks, convenience stores, take-out, curbside and\ndelivery restaurants), hardware stores, security companies, businesses\nproviding services necessary to maintain the safety, sanitation and essential\noperation of residents (plumbers, electricians, landscapers, HVAC services, and\nthe like), banks, community benefit organizations on a case-by-case basis\n(Interfaith Compassion Ministries, United Way, Salvation Army, Red Cross,\nCommunicare, etc.), laundromats\/laundry services, cemeteries, and professional\nservices which service companies and individuals who or which are essential\nbusinesses, agencies, or governmental units (such as accountants, attorneys, engineers,\narchitects, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is news is fluid and ongoing and will be updated as needed and clarified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"25\" height=\"16\"
